Daniel Bishop

Healthcare Attorney

Daniel is an associate attorney who joined Concierge Healthcare Attorneys, LLC in May 2024. From an early age, Daniel wanted to become an attorney, specifically in the field of healthcare. After undergraduate school, he went straight to law school to pursue his passion. Upon receiving his JD, he immediately began working in healthcare law and has provided legal counsel to healthcare clients for over a decade.

During his career, Daniel has engaged in the creation, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of healthcare provider compliance programs, including compliance programs for over 200 nursing homes in the state of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin, Arizona, and West Virginia. He is well-versed in all aspects of healthcare compliance, including drafting legal mentoring documents, providing compliance training to healthcare employees, conducting legal research of pertinent laws, reviewing medical agreements/documentation, and communicating/coordinating with clients on a consistent basis. Daniel also has engaged in substantial healthcare transactional work, including reviewing and drafting corporate formation documents such as operating agreements, resolutions, corporate bylaws, stock and asset purchase agreements, and management services agreements.

He has provided legal counsel to a variety of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, and ambulatory surgery centers.

Furthermore, Daniel’s legal experience includes conducting and participating in highly complex investigations in potential litigation matters, where healthcare providers faced actions brought by federal, state, and local governments, including the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, and Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. He has also negotiated settlement agreements with various state Departments of Health concerning licensure actions against individuals and entities.

Finally, Daniel has provided legal counsel concerning various employment law matters, including contract drafting, preparation, and negotiation concerning employment agreements on behalf of both employers and employees, and advised on separation and termination of employees.

Representative Experience

  • Daniel was engaged by a physician for an employment contract negotiation in which he successfully negotiated $58,000 in additional compensation and incentives into the contract. He also executed the insertion of multiple other provisions for the benefit of the physician as she began her career.
  • Daniel represented a healthcare entity being investigated by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Inspector General (OIG) for potential violations of the exclusions law. After an extensive investigation and numerous interviews with multiple staff members, he negotiated potential civil monetary penalties down from $1.5 million and settled with the OIG for $60,000.
  • Daniel has aided dozens of healthcare practices in the initial formation of their business. From the initial corporate filings, to creating intake forms, to implementing HIPAA policies and procedures, Daniel has helped numerous individual healthcare professionals realize their dream of owning and operating their own healthcare practices.
  • Daniel represented an individual speech-pathologist being investigated for potential violations of the law. With her licensure at risk of revocation, Daniel was able to secure a minimal fine and no other actions against her licensure through a negotiation with the state agency.

Community Involvement

  • Captain James A. Lovell Veterans Programs – Volunteer for various programs including bingo for veterans, care packages for veterans wounded in war, seasonal gift card collections, and charity drives for homeless veterans (2010-present).
  • House of the Good Shepherd and Madonna House – Volunteer for the annual Christmas drive for victims of domestic violence (2005-present).
  • Bernard Parish in New Orleans – Volunteer with Americorps to build single-family houses for the impoverished.
  • Family Promise Emergency Shelter and Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) Program – Volunteer to prepare meals and provide shelter for the impoverished and homeless.

Personal

Daniel is happily married to his wife, Mary. They were wedded in September 2020 and currently live in Chicago, Illinois. He and his wife enjoy the outdoors and they have a goal to visit all the 63 national parks in the United States. They enjoy seeing Chicago Broadway shows and operas at the Lyric Opera in downtown Chicago.

Daniel grew up in a loving family of seven, including one sister and three brothers. His mother and two brothers are also practicing attorneys. His family all lives in the Chicagoland area and remain close.

Daniel enjoys playing sports of all kinds, including basketball, baseball, and pickleball. He also spends some of his spare time painting, woodworking, and playing board games.
